      Said of an organism: requiring oxygen in order to obtain energy from the breakdown of carbohydrates or other foodstuffs by the process of respiration.
    2. Relating to aerobics.
    3. Said of or relating to some forms of physical exercise, eg walking, jogging, swimming: producing an increase in the rate at which the body uses oxygen.
    4. biol.
      Said of a form of respiration in living organisms: in which oxygen is required for the complete oxidation of foodstuffs, especially carbohydrates.
