    1. The act, process or result of amplifying something.

      The magnification or the amount of magnification of a sound's loudness or the strength of an electrical current, signal, etc.
    4. genetics.
      The formation, either naturally or by artificial stimulation, of multiple copies of a particular gene or DNA sequence. Also called gene amplification.
