autogiro
autogyro
noun
    1. A type of aircraft that differs from a helicopter in that its rotor blades are not mechanically powered, but produce lift because they are turned by the air (rather like the sails of a windmill) when the aircraft is moving forwards.
Etymology: 1920s: from Greek auto- + Spanish giro, from Latin gyrus circle, originally a trademark and invented by the Spanish engineer, Don Juan de la Cierva (1895-1936).
