- Any member of a phylum of marine invertebrate animals (Brachiopoda) with an asymmetrical chalky shell consisting of two unequal valves, and a short fleshy stalk projecting from the rear of the shell, used for anchorage to rock surfaces, etc. Also called lampshell.
