    1. One of the subdivisions in the army, consisting eg of a group of regiments, usually commanded by a brigadier.
    2. A group of people, usually in uniform, organized for a specified purpose.
      Example: the fire brigade
Etymology: 17c: ultimately from Latin briga conflict or strife.
