      A friendly goblin or fairy, traditionally said to help with domestic chores.
    (especially US)
    2. A small square piece of chewy chocolate cake containing nuts.
Etymology: 16c, originally meaning a ‘little brown man'.

    1. A young girl (between 7 and 11 years old) belonging to the junior section of the Guides (see guide noun 4) Association in Britain, or of the Girl Scouts in the US. Compare cub noun 2.
Derivative: Brownie Guider
noun
    A woman in charge of a group of Brownie Guides.
Etymology: Early 20c: so called because until 1990 the Brownies wore a brown uniform, now replaced by a yellow one.
