    1. A gas burner, used mainly in chemistry laboratories, with an adjustable inlet hole which allows the gas-air mixture to be controlled so as to produce a very hot flame with no smoke.
Etymology: 19c: named after its inventor R W Bunsen (1811‐99), a German chemist.
