    1. An annual plant, native to Europe and Asia, with small white flowers borne in flat-topped clusters, and smooth oblong fruits. It is widely cultivated for its aromatic leaves, which are used as a garnish and for flavouring salads, etc.
Etymology: Anglo-Saxon cherfelle, from Greek chairephyllon.
