    1. Someone who donates something, especially money.
      Thesaurus: contributor, giver, benefactor, donator, sponsor, philanthropist; Antonym: beneficiary.
    2. Someone or animal that provides blood, semen, living tissue or organs for medical use, eg blood for transfusion or a kidney for transplantation.
    3. electronics.
      An impurity in the form of a chemical element, such as antimony, that is deliberately added to a pure semiconductor material such as silicon, so called because it donates electrons to the semiconductor and so increases the conductivity of the latter.
    4. chem.
      An atom that donates a pair of electrons to an acceptor, resulting in the formation of a coordinate bond (see coordinate noun 3).
