      The piece of wood, etc that plugs the mouthpiece of a recorder or other similar wind instrument, with a narrow slit through which the player blows.
Etymology: 17c: probably from the dialectal sense ‘loose lower lip' or ‘pouting lip'; compare Icelandic flipi lip of a horse.
