    1. The act of fixing or state of being fixated.
    2. An (often abnormal) attachment, preoccupation or obsession.
      Thesaurus: infatuation, obsession, fetish, preoccupation, monomania, complex, compulsion, idée fixe, hang-up (slang).
    3. psychol.
      A strong attachment of a person to another person, an object or a particular means of gratification during childhood.
    4. biol.
      The procedure whereby cells or tissues are killed, hardened and their shape and structure preserved with suitable chemical agents, before they are stained and examined under a microscope.
    5. chem.
      The conversion of a chemical substance into a form that does not evaporate, ie a non-volatile or solid form.
    6. psychol.
      Inability to change a particular way of thinking or acting, which has become habitual as a result of repeated reinforcement or frustration.
