1. A wind instrument consisting of a wooden or metal tube with holes stopped by the fingertips or by keys, which is held horizontally and played by directing the breath across the embouchure. See also flautist.

A rounded concave groove or furrow in wood or stone, eg running vertically down a pillar.
3. A tall narrow wineglass, used especially for sparkling wine and champagne. Also called flute-glass.
