fly agaric
noun
    1. A mushroom with a flattened scarlet cap covered with concentric rings of small white scales, and a white stem with a swollen base, containing poisonous (though not deadly) substances and mild hallucinogens.
Etymology: 18c: so called because of the custom of using the cap crumbled in milk to kill flies, and its use on flypaper.
