    1. Any bulk feed, especially hay and straw, for cattle and other animal livestock.
      Thesaurus: feed, food, forage, foodstuff, rations, provender, fuel, nourishment.
    2. colloq
      Something that is constantly made use of by someone (eg newspaper editors) to feed an ongoing need (eg for copy). See also cannon fodder.
      Example: Stories about royalty are fodder for the popular press
