    1. A shrub or small tree native to tropical America, which grows up to 6m (20ft) tall, and has oval leaves and large clusters of highly fragrant white, yellow or pink flowers.
    2. A perfume made from this, or imitating it.
      Form: frangipane (also)
Etymology: 17c: named after the Italian nobleman Frangipani, who invented a perfume based on bitter almonds for scenting gloves.
