1. A term variously applied to sections of society that share a common scepticism about the value of traditionally held beliefs, lifestyles, etc, especially those pertaining to work, the family, etc.

Etymology: 1960s: first coined as the title of a collection of interviews with young Mods (see mod¹ noun) and rockers (noun 5).
