Geneva Convention

    1. An international agreement that regulates the status and treatment in wartime of the sick and wounded, prisoners of war, etc.
Etymology: 19c: named after the Swiss city of Geneva where the first agreement was ratified and signed in 1864. There have been subsequent revisions, notably one in 1906, also held in Geneva, which is now the significant agreement.
