    1. An annual plant and common weed with irregularly toothed oblong leaves and numerous small cylindrical flower-heads consisting of clusters of yellow florets.
Etymology: Anglo-Saxon gundæswelgiæ, from gund pus + swelgan to swallow, so called because of its use in poultices.
