adj
    1. Said of the driver in a vehicle accident (and of the accident itself): causing injury, and then fleeing the scene without stopping, reporting the accident or helping the victim.
    2. Said of an air raid, assault, etc: having a very short duration.
Etymology: 1920s in sense 1; 19c as a baseball term.
