    1. A light motorboat with a flat bottom or hydrofoils which, at high speeds, skims along the surface of the water.
    2. A fin-like device attached to a submarine allowing it to rise and fall in the water.
    3. A seaplane.

    1. Said of a boat: to skim on the surface of the water like a hydroplane.
    2. Said of a road vehicle: to skid on a wet surface; to aquaplane.
