    1. geog.
      A narrow arm of water running inland from a sea coast or lake shore, or forming a passage between two islands. See also fjord.

    2. A narrow opening or valve through which a substance, especially a fluid such as air or fuel, enters the cylinder of an engine, pump, compressor or other device. Opposite of outlet.
