      A very hard, green, white, brown or yellow semi-precious stone consisting of either jadeite or nephrite, used to make vases and carved ornaments.
    2. The intense green colour of jade.
Etymology: 18c: French le jade, from Spanish piedra de ijada stone of the ribs, from the belief that it helped to cure colic.
