Labour Party
noun
- (Brit)
1. A political party founded by members of trades unions and socialist organizations who felt that the rights of workers were not adequately represented by the Liberal Party or the Conservative Party. The party was originally committed to policies of public ownership, establishing a welfare state and national health service, etc, although, in recent times, its stance on such issues would appear to have given way to one that is more middle-of-the-road.
2. Any similarly orientated political party in several other countries.
- Form: Labor Party (often)
