Luddite
noun
    1. historical
A group of artisans who, in the early 19c, systematically destroyed machinery, especially in the textile industry, because they feared that the increase in automation not only threatened their job security but also resulted in the production of much shoddier goods.
      Form: the Luddites
    2. Anyone who opposes new technology or industrial change.
Etymology: 1811: said to be named after Ned Lud or Ludd, who, far from being the leader of the group, as popularly believed, was someone who attacked hosiery manufacturing equipment in an insane frenzy some thirty years earlier.
