    1. Nearer the end than the beginning.
      Example: the latter part of the holiday

    2. Used when referring to two people or things: mentioned, considered, etc second.

Etymology: Anglo-Saxon lætra.

    ○ In sense 2, latter strictly refers to the second of two choices (and former refers to the first)&wbox; &wbox;
    ○ More loosely, especially in speech, it refers to the last of several choices&wbox;
    ○ In sense 1, it does not contrast with former, and it means more or less the same as later, to which it is related in origin&wbox; &wbox;
