    1. A light hard material consisting of pulped paper mixed with glue and sometimes other substances such as paint. It is moulded into shape while wet and left to dry, and used to make boxes, jars, jewellery, masks, etc. Also as adj.
Etymology: 18c: French, literally ‘chewed paper'.
