    1. TV programmes, video entertainment, etc distributed to an audience which pays for the programmes viewed by subscribing to a cable TV or satellite TV network. Connection to a number of channels, or to an individual programme, is paid for by renting a decoder or using a smart card to unscramble signals received. Also called subscription TV.
