    1. A white powder consisting of a hydrated form of calcium sulphate (gypsum), mixed with water to make a paste that sets hard, used for sculpting and for making casts for broken limbs.
Etymology: 15c: so called because originally prepared with gypsum taken from Montmartre in Paris.
