    1. A conspicuous feather of a bird.
    2. Such a feather, or bunch of feathers, worn as an ornament or crest, represented in a coat of arms, etc.
    3. A curling column (of smoke etc).

    1. Said of a bird: to clean or preen (itself or its feathers).
    2. To decorate with plumes.
    3. To pride or congratulate oneself on it, usually on something trivial.
