noun
    1. The result of a division sum, eg when 72 (the dividend) is divided by 12 (the divisor), the quotient is 6, or when 80 is divided by 12, the quotient is still 6 with a remainder (noun 2) of 8.
    2. The number of times one number is contained within another.
    3. A ratio of two numbers or quantities to be divided. See also intelligence quotient.
