1. Illness caused by exposure to high levels of radiation, eg nuclear fallout, or to relatively low levels over a long period, and marked by symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, loss of hair, internal bleeding, reduction in fertility, and a significantly increased risk of cancer, leukaemia, birth defects, etc.
