    1. A track or set of tracks for trains to run on, formed by two parallel steel rails fixed to sleepers (see sleeper sense 2).
    2. A system of such tracks, plus all the trains, buildings and people required for it to function.
    3. A company responsible for operating such a system.
    4. A similar set of tracks for a different type of vehicle.
      Example: funicular railway
