    1. A herbivorous dinosaur measuring up to 7.5m in length, which lived during the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous periods and which had a small head, a high domed back with a double row of large vertical bony plates, short front legs and a long tail.
Etymology: 19c: from Greek stegos roof + saurus lizard.
