    1. Any of various species of succulent plant that are mostly native perennials of northern temperate regions and which have fleshy leaves and star-like yellow, white or red flowers.
Etymology: Anglo-Saxon stancrop, so called because of its ability to thrive on rocks, old walls, etc, making it an ideal rockery plant.
