      (formula C12H22O11) a white soluble crystalline sugar, found in most plants, that hydrolyses to a molecule of glucose linked to a molecule of fructose and which is extracted from sugar cane and sugar beet for use as a sweetener in food and drinks. Also called sugar, cane-sugar.
