toxic shock syndrome

- A potentially fatal condition in women that is characterized by flu-like symptoms, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle pains, etc and a drop in blood pressure, all of which are caused by staphylococcal blood poisoning which is itself brought on because of the development of a toxin in a tampon that has been kept in the body for too long.
