    1. zool.
      Said of an animal: giving birth to live young that have developed within the mother's body, as in humans and most other mammals. Compare oviparous and ovoviviparous.
    2. bot.
      Denoting a form of asexual reproduction in which new young plants start to develop on the parent plant while still attached to it, as in the spider plant and certain grasses.
