    1. A type of seaweed, especially one of the large brown varieties, floating, cast-up or growing on the beach.
    2. Destruction or devastation.
    3. A wreck or wreckage.
Etymology: 14c, meaning ‘a wreck', and so later ‘something cast up on the beach': from Dutch or German wrak; in sense 2, a variant of rack2.
